The NAVC

The NAVC is a nonprofit organization that creates unparalleled opportunities for the veterinary community that foster lifelong learning, encourage growth and promote well-being to advance animal care worldwide.

During my time as a public relations coordinator for the NAVC, I wear many hats. During VMX 2023 I led the press room relations, organized a press reception and connected members of the media to veterinarians specializing in topics of interest. In my day to day, I work pitching, media monitoring, applying for awards on behalf of our organization and creating coverage decks.

Here is a selection of stories I have helped place while at the NAVC.

Ripple effect of veterinarian shortage causing delays in appointments

In this placement, we wanted to highlight how the veterinary community addresses the expected industry shortages. By connecting Erik Sandoval with one of our contributing veterinary technicians, arranging for a virtual visit with a veterinarian states away, showcasing the education available at VMX 2023 and efforts to connect with teens interested in becoming a veterinarian when they grow up we were able to set up for this story which will be released as a longer format video late spring.

Puppies, kittens and Kevin Bacon: Here's what happened at the 2023 Vet Expo in Orlando

Ahead of VMX 2023 we released a series of press releases highlighting the veterinarians who would be in attendance and available for interview during VMX.

I arranged for Maria Sonnenberg to interview several of our veterinary experts and brands who were exhibiting at the conference for her piece in Florida Today.

WGN with Lisa Dent

Our Chief Veterinary Expert (CVO) Dr. Dana Varble has begun having a segment on WGN with Lisa Dent every other week where they chat about current topics related to pets - pet poison awareness month, flea and tick season, etc. - and respond to listener questions.

New test for early detection of periodontal disease in dogs and cats is launched

In uplifting the veterinary community, we also look to support emerging technology that will improve the lives of animals everywhere. DVM360 wrote and recorded many pieces while at VMX 2023 including this one about OraStripdx, a new exhibitor at VMX, who we connected with DVM360 in the VMX press room.
